THM offers benefits for those prepared to look beyond products from the big three component manufacturers. The firm emerged from the German aerospace industry and was founded by Thomas and Petra Mertin in 1996. It later gained fame when its components were employed by the notoriously fastidious Deutsche Telekom pro team.
Since then, it’s brought expertise in carbon fibre manufacturing to bear on creating the lightest and best-performing bicycle components. These products include seatposts, handlebars, stems, and integrated cockpits.
They also include the Clavicula crankset. This entirely carbon model undercuts alternatives from Shimano, SRAM, or Campagnolo by several hundred grams while remaining extraordinarily stiff and durable. This crankset clocks in at just 293g for compact and 302g for standard configurations and can also be selected with an inbuilt power meter that only adds around 30g.
It achieves this feat through the use of a complete carbon construction that includes the axle. Almost all current configurations can be accommodated with regard to crank length, chainring size, and mounting type. However, there’s often a slight wait time as each unit is meticulously laid up by hand in Germany. You can find more info on this and other upgrades via our configurator tool.
